Questions families ask

If yours is not here, call the office or ask at a visit.

How does admissions work?

Come to an open house or a visit day, apply, and hear from us in early March. Every family hears at the same time, and a place is held with a signed enrollment agreement.

Can we visit before we apply?

Yes, and we ask you to. A visit day is a morning in the grade your child would join, followed by a talk with the head of school. Children come along.

When are open houses and visit days?

Open houses are in October and January. Visit days run most Wednesdays from October to March. Book either through the visit page.

What is a day like?

It runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. with reading, mathematics, lunch and recess, a seminar or workshop and a book read aloud. The day page has the hours.

What is a seminar for a child of eight?

A talk around one table about a short text the class has read. The teacher asks one question, and children answer one another and point to the page. Nobody is graded on what they say.

How does tuition work, and how do we ask about aid?

Tuition is set by the year and the grade, and the office gives its figures at a visit. Financial aid is available; here is how to apply: an aid form follows the application, and answers come with admissions decisions.

How big are the classes?

Each class is small enough to sit around one table. The program matrix shows the size of every class.

What about lunch, uniform and phones?

Families send a lunch. Children wear a plain dress code from the office's list. Phones stay switched off in the backpack. The family policies page has the details.

Is there before or after care?

After care runs from 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is billed apart, by the month, for the days a family uses.

How does the school talk with families?

Teachers write to families each month and meet them twice a year. The office answers the phone from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
