A day at school
From the door to the drive
The rhythm is the same in every grade, so children know what comes next.
- 8:30
Step 1: Arrival and morning talk
A teacher meets each child at the door. The class gathers for a poem said together and the plan for the day.
- 9:00
Step 2: Reading and writing
Reading aloud and alone, then writing: a paragraph with a plan in the early grades, an essay in the later ones.
- 10:30
Step 3: Mathematics and science
Mathematics worked at the board, then the science room or the garden.
- 12:00
Step 4: Lunch and recess
Lunch at long tables, then time outdoors in all but the worst weather.
- 1:00
Step 5: Seminar or workshop
The class gathers for a seminar on a text or a rhetoric workshop, Monday to Thursday. Fridays end at 12:30 p.m., after the upper grades' debate.
- 2:30
Step 6: A book read aloud
The last half hour belongs to a book the whole class is reading.
- 3:15
Step 7: Dismissal
Cars pull up in the drive and teachers walk each child to the right one. After care runs until 5:30 p.m.
See a day for yourself
Book a visit day and spend a morning in the grade your child would join.
